Construction camera, construction webcam, Baukamera — customers use all three names for the same thing: a camera that watches a construction site. The name doesn't matter; the system behind it does. A professional system is weatherproof, runs on solar and 4G/5G without site power, delivers 8–60 megapixels and combines documentation, timelapse and security — a consumer camera does none of that.
Side by side
| Consumer camera | Professional system |
|---|---|
| Mains or USB power | Mains or autonomous solar + battery |
| Needs Wi-Fi nearby | Own 4G/5G connection |
| Indoor housing | Weatherproof, year-round outdoors |
| HD live stream | 8–60 MP stills + live view |
| Watching | Documentation, timelapse, 24/7 security |
| Data protection is your problem | Automatic blurring, Swiss hosting, nDSG |
When a simple camera is enough
Indoors, with power and Wi-Fi at hand and no documentation duties, a compact camera does the job — that is exactly what our interior cameras are: plugged into a socket, one timeline per room.
When you need the real thing
Outdoors, for months, with weather, without power, and with material worth protecting — that is construction-camera territory. Add the legal side (who may film what, where the images live) and the difference stops being about the lens: it is about the system around it.
Which name should you use?
Any of them — construction camera, construction webcam or Baukamera all describe the same category, and we answer to every one. The only question that matters: professional system or consumer device. The details are covered in our FAQ.
